Reference points: the four first international conferences on adult education and their political, social, cultural and educational context

This document provides a chronological overview of the proceedings of the first four international conferences on adult education held in Elsinore, Denmark in 1949, Montreal in 1960, Tokyo in 1972 and Paris in 1985. In addition, it reports on the significant political, social, cultural and educational events taking place at the time of each conference and during the intervening years, which set the context for their respective themes and discussion.
