Twenty five ways to improve tomorrow's workforce

New technology has created significant changes in the workplace and increased the demand for high-level skills, such as creative thinking, problem-solving, negotiation, and more technical and scientific knowledge. Demographic change and the economy's need for labour, has resulted in an increasing number of workers being drawn from traditionally neglected groups such as women, minorities and younger people from 16-24 years of age. These groups will require priority in education and training in order to enable their successful participation in the workplace of the future. This article lists and describes the skills women will need to succeed in the workplace and summarises the role of educators in supporting the development of these work skills. Approaches and strategies for educators to support skills development for women are also described.
