Five years later: reforming technical and vocational education and training in Central Asia and Mongolia

This report, directed by David Atchoarena (International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP)) and H. Gunter Schroter (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)), is the result of a joint IIEP/GTZ activity implemented in 1996. The report aims to present salient features of vocational and technical education as they emerged in the course of the study and from an examination of the data collected. It takes a topical, analytic and comparative approach. The comparative section completes the overview by revealing how, from the legacy of the USSR, the various countries - Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan - have differed with regard to both the pace and the mode of reform.
