This presentation has two purposes. The first is to provide an overview of the development of a general policy for training for vocational competence in Africa. The second is to describe the vocational education systems that have been put into place by Botswana, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. The conclusion reached is that the vocational education systems have been developed in isolation, although there are many similarities between these countries. The recommendation is that a networking system should be set up to facilitate contact between the various vocational education institutions, the governments and businesses.
