In Turkey, the development of occupational standards and an accompanying testing and certification system have been under discussion since the 1960s. Along with studies, attempts have been made by some institutions to develop occupational standards. Unfortunately the scope of such studies was limited. The most significant attempt is the Employment and Training Project and its occupational standards, testing and certification component. This paper briefly highlights the needs and benefits of the occupational standards for employers, employees and the training sector before summarising the Employment and Training Project's occupational standards, testing and certification component.
