Accreditation is the activity by which an accrediting body evaluates a technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institution or program and formally recognises it as having met predetermined standards. Accreditation has two fundamental purposes. They are to assure the quality and to assist in the improvement of persons, products and/or processes. In Germany 2/3 of an age cohort receive their initial training in the Dual System of vocational training. Two examples are offered, one public and one public-private area of the Dual System, which show the close connection between quality assurance and quality improvement.
