The aim is to present a summary of recent developments in Scotland in the field of quality in vocational education and training (VET). The quality system is known as the Scottish Quality Management System (SQMS). SQMS has succeeded in achieving its original aim of relieving the duplication of effort and waste of resources being experienced by vocational education and training providers in Scotland. A further benefit has been the development and implementation of a national approach to auditing which has ensured a national consistency and uniformity of quality of such organisations.
