Divers or dabblers: participation patterns of vocational/technical students in Illinois high schools

The difficulty for researchers in assessing the effects of vocational education participation on students has impeded accurate assessment of program outcomes. This study therefore sought to develop a course-taking profile of vocational education students in Illinois where participation and completion patterns were examined. The discussion draws conclusions for the four specific objectives which were to: identify existing patterns of course participation; identify differences in participation patterns among subgroups; determine the degree of special populations participation; and refine the definition of a vocational program completer.
