This article reports a study that investigated the viability of workplace literacy programs, and in particular, what workplace literacy involves in practice, when vocational institutions are the primary provider. The methodology is outlined and the three workplace literacy programs are described in detail. Findings indicated that the vocational institutions studied were valid providers of workplace literacy programs and the discussion focuses on how this information contributes to an understanding of the possibilities and limits of vocational institutions as new areas of workplace training.
