This paper was presented at Vocational education at a distance: the Asia and the Pacific region workshop (TD/IRD 88.96). It deals with reforming a national education and training system, based on the experiences of Korea in its continuing effort to balance, or coordinate, between academic and vocational education. First, Korea's VET system will be examined. Second, recent policy reforms to restructure and diversify Korean education and training system will be reviewed. Finally, several issues concerning VET reforms will be discussed with some assessments of past policy efforts.
