In the past 20 years the environment affecting the choice of occupation and the transition from the education and training system into the employment system has changed decisively in all European countries. Societal trends such as a general shift in values, increasing individualization and pluralization of walks of life, a lengthening of the youth phase, changes in gender-related role assignments and many other developments have challenged previously prevailing living patterns and vocational orientations. Vocational information and guidance must therefore by available as a career-long opportunity for all age groups and vocational concerns.
