Technical and vocational education and training: an overview

The aim of this paper was to provide seminar participants with a broad technical and vocational education and training (TVET) background so that they will at the outset have an overview of the complex subject that constitutes TVET. In view of the difficulties of accessing TVET literature in the region, the paper also attempts to provide a comprehensive picture of recent developments on the subject. The paper does not presume to pose any solutions to the numerous TVET issues but does highlight some of the major issues confronting TVET in the Asian and Pacific region, as well as the various approaches and strategies being adopted in both developed and developing countries for the provision of TVET.

Technical and vocational education and training: proceedings of the Regional Seminar on Technical and Vocational Education and Training

This seminar was designed to enable participants to discuss policies for the development of skilled manpower. During the seminar five broad themes were uncovered. These were: philosophy, rationale and systems of technical and vocational education and training (TVET); role of the private sector in the development of TVET; planning of TVET; financing of TVET; and policies and strategies for the development of TVET.
