Tranby Aboriginal Cooperative College entered into a contract with the Australian Committee on Training Curriculum (ACTRAC) to develop a strategic plan for national curriculum development for indigenous people. The project sought to: ascertain the vocational education and training priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; develop guidelines and selection criteria for national, indigenous curriculum development projects; recommend a mechanism for ANTA to receive ongoing national advice and to co-ordinate VET provision for indigenous curriculum; and identify areas of further research. Project methodology involved extensive research, consultation, and negotiation with indigenous organisations and other stakeholders in every state and territory. Thus this is a national report. The report includes sections on the national policy context; the right of self-determination; the rationale for indigenous curriculum; priority areas of curriculum need; ongoing national advice and co-ordination; limitations of existing sources of advice in indigenous VET; ANTA's Indigenous Training Priorities Seminar; staff development; and recommendations. This project was commissioned by ANTA.
