This report analyses skills, education and employment trends through statistical data from Australia’s regions, from 1991 to 2001. Australia’s qualification levels have risen to a comparable level with other Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member nations. Education levels across Australia’s regions have also risen, however this increase has not been as significant in remote regions. This paper assesses the growth across regions at a variety of levels. The increase in educational attainment corresponds with the growing need for highly skilled workers. The report assesses particular professions across regions, and finds that numbers of teaching, health and computing professionals are increasing. The paper supports the view that levels of education, skills and qualifications relate to an area’s economy.
