Human resources development and economic growth

This report was prepared for the secretariat based on case studies commissioned by the secretariat from 11 countries of the ESCAP region (Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Viet Nam). The rationale for this study was that human development must be the central objective and focus of the development process. Most developing countries in the ESCAP region have increasingly recognised the enhancement of human resources as a prerequisite for economic growth and further development.
