The low level of recruitment of women to technical education and therefore, to scientific, technical and technological employment, is now of worldwide concern. There is a considerable measure of agreement among both politicians and professionals that we are not only wasting female talent, but that we are, as a consequence, hindering full economic development. The author offers a diagnosis of the history, makes recommendations and proposes a gender-neutral environment as a basis for progress.
