Hearing other voices: a critical assessment of popular views on literacy and work

The paper looks at widely held, fundamental assumptions about literacy, work & workers, then challenges these views. Drawing on sociocognitive & historical research on literacy & work, the author suggests current characterisations of literacy, literacy at work, & workers as illiterate are inaccurate, incomplete and misleading. Alternative points of view & critical reassessments are outlined.
