Impact of competency based assessment on credit transfer and articulation arrangements: final report to the Australian National Training Authority

This report presents the findings of a research project which was undertaken on behalf of the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) to provide advice on the impact of competency based assessment (CBA) on credit transfer and articulation arrangements both within the vocational education and training (VET) sector, and between the VET sector and the higher education sector. The report examines the approach undertaken by the researchers, the impact of training packages, current approaches to credit transfer and articulation, models for best practice and the key findings. These include that: the introduction of CBA is unlikely to have an impact on existing credit transfer and articulation arrangements; gaining confidence in the VET quality assurance processes and enhancing the confidence of participating institutions in each others systems and products will be crucial for future arrangements; and the level of impact on future arrangements is likely to vary between sectors.
