This report looks at the extent to which vocational education and training (VET) can compensate for the effects of incomplete schooling. While the focus of the report is on cultural outcomes, it also analyses student perceptions of the vocational value of VET. The report concludes that individuals who undertake VET upon leaving school gain cultural benefits of a significant kind. These include an improvement in their capacity to relate well to others; an increase in their perception of the relevance of lifelong learning and in their ability to exploit learning opportunities; enhanced self-esteem; better communication skills; and improved social integration.
