Diabetes literacy: a partnership approach to educating culturally and linguistically diverse people about the risks and prevention of type 2 diabetes

This publication reports on an Adult Literacy National Project (ALNP) Innovative project carried out during 2007-8. A series of six 'diabetes literacy' programs were undertaken in different local community sites in the Northern Sydney region. Each program targeted culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups representing ethnic and cultural groups that generally report a higher prevalence of type 2 diabetes in Australia. The aims of the programs were: to assess how health and adult literacy professionals could work together in the delivery of a diabetes literacy program; and to trial community-based diabetes literacy programs which targeted CALD groups.
