This project focused on the operational stream in the health sector and researched and developed a model to ensure that language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) development continues when WELL (Workplace English Language and Literacy) funded teacher support is no longer available. The project was based at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane and included research at hospitals that had received WELL funding in 1997/98 in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The project aimed to: - research and develop a model of LLN support within the workplace that would be sustainable after traditional LLN teaching/support has concluded - assess the viability of a resource package for supervisors and trainers that would assist with LLN issues in an ongoing way. The project involved a literature review and initial research phase followed by the development, implementation and evaluation of the model and resource. Although developed in the health sector, the model is intended to be applied in any workplace where a qualified LLN teacher is giving support to operational stream workers.
