This kit aims to raise awareness of trainers and assessors in the Emergency Services of the kinds and levels of literacy skills that are required by emergency services personnel. It was designed for self-access use (taking a minimum of 3 hours) by an emergency services trainer, but could also be used by 2 or 3 trainers working in a small group. Discussion with colleagues is encouraged. The target audience for this resource is experienced trainers, assessors and those involved in on-site training delivery or materials writing in the Emergency Services. The areas of study covered are: - Literacy - myths and facts, - Reader-friendly materials - Working with exisitng materials - Writing reader-friendly materials. Also included are answers to self assessment exercises and a reference list of other relevant training materials across a range oif industry settings.
