Curriculum perspectives, vol. 17, no. 1, April 1997

'Curriculum perspectives' is a quarterly journal focussing on all matters relating to curriculum development, evaluation, and theory. It is published by the Australian Curriculum Studies Association Inc. (ACSA). Choosing to change: teachers working with student outcome statements

Current reforms in the education sector mean that teachers' work is being carried out in a state of almost constant flux. This paper aims to explore some positive moments which teachers are creating in a time of intense change, by looking at local initiatives allied to the national agenda for curriculum profiling. In particular, the experience of some groups of teachers in Western Australia is examined as they trial student outcome statements. It was found that the adoption of student outcome statements affords an opportunity for the development of a collaborative, interdependent profession and that this has profound implications for teachers' work. The trial itself enabled teachers to develop and review their own teaching performance systematically, and assisted them to take control of their own professional growth in the context of their particular school.
