This paper is the first in a planned series of case studies on good assessment practice. The paper describes how three communication modules were successfully integrated in the Associate Diploma of Business in Applied Computing in Semester 2, 1994 at the Canberra Institute of Technology. In integrating the learning outcomes from the three communication modules and constructing an assessment strategy that was workplace centred, teachers were able to generate assessment outcomes which were valid, realistic and clearly relevant to the goals of learners.
