In November 1978, the ACT Advisory Committee on Linked Courses was established to investigate the feasibility of implementing a small scale pilot program to provide links between secondary schools and the ACT Colleges of Technical and Further Education. As a result of the Committee's work, and with the agreement of the ACT Schools Authority and the Office of ACT Further Education, linked courses were introduced in 1979. Linked courses can take a variety of different forms, but can basically be described as a course of study organised cooperatively by the staff of two or more institutions for the benefit of students from either or both institutions and recognised by both institutions as an integral part of their total curriculum program. This report surveys existing links between secondary and post-secondary education in the Territory. The report also considers prospects for future development of linked courses.
