Barriers to participation

This article explains a report by the Smith Family (indexed at TD/ERD 87.199) on educational participation in terms of engagement in educational activities and contexts that have an impact on an individual’s development of personal, intellectual, and social capabilities. The barriers to participation refer to financial, educational, and technological disadvantaging factors that can have a negative impact on educational participation, and eventually on the economic and social participation, of children and young people from low-income households.
