Abstract:
The Green Corps program, announced in the 1996-97 Australian Federal Budget, was an initiative designed to give young Australians the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the environment by contributing to conservation projects while receiving accredited on-the-job training. This report evaluates the program in order to assess its short-term impact on both participants and the environment and concludes that the program has been achieving good results for participants as well as the environments. The chapters are: Introduction; Characteristics of projects and participants; Impact on participants; Environmental performance; Programme and project management; Maximising environmental effectiveness; Conclusions. Also included are: Performance indicator descriptions; and List of Acronyms.
