Abstract:

The Personal Effectiveness in Diversity (PED) program is a 'diversity learning' program intended for people in leadership positions in organisations, developed by Caroline Pinto, the Managing Director of Intercultural & Community Development Resources Australia (ICDR Australia). The stated objective of the program is to introduce participants to diversity concepts and assist them in creating relevance of these concepts in their work and lives. ICDR Australia proposed a pilot of its PED program as part of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs Productive Diversity Partnership Program. DIMIA asked ICDR Australia and the Swinburne University of Technology National Centre for Gender and Cultural Diversity (NCGCD) to develop an evaluative framework to provide a critical assessment and evaluation of the PED program to determine if it meets the challenge of providing a diversity awareness program that improves participants' skill to effectively manage diversity in their work 'sphere of influence', and if it is underpinned by sound diversity/inclusivity pedagogy theory and best practice. This report describes the PED program, its underlying pedagogy, the evaluation process and the collaboration between the NCGCD and ICDR Australia.
