Abstract:

This report presents the results of the second, Local Government Training Expenditure Survey, undertaken in the July quarter of 1992. (The first was undertaken in 1991.) Sampled were 125 local government councils around Australia. The largest employment group included was plant operating and labouring (31 per cent of all employed persons surveyed). Other large groups were clerical/community services, technical and para-professional, and management and professional. The main indicator of training effort was the ratio of training expenditure to gross wages and salaries. As at 1993, this was the 'best recognised indicator of training in Australia' (Executive Summary). Distribution of training effort is presented in a variety of ways, including: by state or territory, by field of training, by gender, by hours of training, by employment group, as percentage of gross wages and salaries, by component of council expenditure, and by apprentices and trainees.
