Impact assessment of skills training for slum dwellers

Abstract:
This report assesses the impact and contribution of [Chetona Bikash Kendra] CBK vocational training in improving the socioeconomic status of inhabitants from Rayer Bazar, Dhaka City, Bangladesh. It provides recommendations for possible interventions which can be taken into account for the international donor Swisscontact's strategic objectives for developing the vocational training of the CBK program. CBK is a vocational training institute established to address illiteracy and to provide urban slum children with access to skills development and training, as well as basic education. Findings and recommendations are based on responses from the three stakeholder groups - program graduates, current students, and administrators and teacher/trainers. The recommendations relate to: change at the organisational level in terms of capacity, planning, management and delivery; and change in the scope of programs in terms of scale-up and expansion.
