Abstract:

Access to accreditation for those learners in further education (FE) with learning difficulties and disabilities (LDD) has become an issue of concern for FE colleges in the United Kingdom (UK). FE colleges are seeking appropriate forms of accreditation for learners with LDD to ensure inclusivity and to meet the Further Education Funding Council's funding requirement that learning programs should eventually lead to external accreditation. This bulletin provides a brief examination of the move from college certification to external accreditation for learners with LDD in light of the agenda for change proposed by the Dearing 'Review of qualifications for 16-19 year olds' (1996).
