Abstract:

This paper was written for the NLS-forum, an online discussion and news forum focusing on networked learner support (NLS) in higher education. The forum holds a programme of discussions (or mini conferences) on topics of interest to list members. The discussions are led by 'guest speakers', such as Di Booker, and are archived on the website.

The 'Educational debate' is a discussion on the library/information service's role in supporting online learning programmes. The paper is divided into the following sections: cultural change; online learning environment; educational role of the library; collaboration with teaching staff; cultural change processes; and professional development.
