Abstract:

The theme of the Tampere conference was cooperation between education and working life, and improving the quality of vocational education. Each forum discussed an individual sub-theme.

This forum examined the variety of models of cooperation between vocational education and working life included in diverse European vocational educational systems. The development of these models depends on cooperation at the European Community level and between Member States. These issues were addressed at the European level and from the perspective of individual Member States. The presentations were as follows: Synergies between formal education and workplace learning / Albert Tuijnman; Expanding importance of formal training / Candida Soares; Enhancing the partnership between vocational training and the economy at large - the initiatives and experiences of the European Vocational Training Foundation; On-the-job learning in the transition from training to employment - the French experience with alternance; Trainees in the workplace - policy priorities of employees / Jari-Pekka Jyrkanne; The mechanisms of quality innovation in the dual system - the future of the dual system / Ernst Uhe.
