Abstract:

The aims of the eighth meeting of the Asian and Pacific Skill Development Information Network (APSDIN) were to report on current regional information networking activities as well as to decide on the future policy for regional information networking and the expansion into quantitative data capture and dissemination.

The Iranian paper described the activities of the Technical and Vocational Training Organization (TVTO), a semi-autonomous agency which trains semi-skilled and skilled workers. TVTO ensures that training information and documentation is reliably collected and easily accessed. The Supreme Coordination Council for Technical and Vocational Education (SCTVE) is the country's policy making body in regard to the VET sector. The paper responded to the meeting's aims by suggesting that APSDIN assist in the development and exchange of training materials among its member countries, perhaps through regional networks. Increased links with other international, information networks and the provision of consultancy services also were suggested.
