Abstract:

This article reports on consultations with five schools in three states to test the implementation of pathways goals within school programmes. The programmes were instituted in 1993 to link in-school and post-school pathways for students. The paper discusses the pathways metaphor as it is used to describe relations between school, training, higher education and economic development and considers the conflicting demands that are placed on curriculum as well as the expectations of students, and access and equity issues.
