Abstract:

This chapter addresses the challenge of drawing useful conclusions from large numbers of individual studies for researchers and practitioners. Meta-analysis provides a way to meet this challenge and is the focus of the chapter. The authors aim to describe the group of statistical analyses collectively known as meta-analysis and to summarise several recent applications in the area of educational and vocational guidance to demonstrate the application of this methodology. Four representative papers are reviewed in the chapter and were chosen because they represent a range of topics within the field of educational and vocational guidance and use a variety of meta-analytic procedures. These papers are: The validity of employment interviews; Critical ingredients in career choice counselling; Cognitive and non-cognitive predictors of post-secondary student success; The stability of vocational interests.

The volume from which this chapter is taken is indexed at TD/IRD 88.424. Individual chapters are indexed from TD/TNC 96.330 to TD/TNC 96.363.
