Abstract:

The authors consider the following questions: How will our knowledge develop up until the year 2020? What impact will the future development of society have? What consequences will emerge for education? With the help of the Delphi method, a structured, multistage survey of a defined set of experts was undertaken. The final report of these surveys provides a definition of the information society and the problems it poses and also presents the goals, questions and methodology of the Delphi survey. This is followed by a discussion of the thematic areas and areas of knowledge in which experts expect a particularly dynamic development of information within the next years. According to the authors, interdisciplinarity is absolutely essential in accessing all dimensions of knowledge. The authors explain why general knowledge is important as a complement to specialised knowledge in the information society and how this notion of general knowledge may be understood. The appendix contains the questionnaires with their interpretation as well as evaluation materials.
