Abstract:

This report is part of an investigation into the marketing opportunities for short courses in the plant mechanics and mining related fields in Australia and South-East Asia.

The report:

(1) focuses on the context within which the Australian Government education export initiatives have developed;

(2) provides a brief overview of the government's overseas student programs and education export related policies;

(3) considers some of the influences on the demand for Australian educational services, and;

(4) reviews considerations relevant to introducing overseas students to NSW TAFE.

The report concludes by commenting upon the failure of other Australian educational institutions to attract sufficient numbers of overseas students in spite of their marketing efforts.
