Author: Tang, Qian

Abstract:

In his keynote address to the March 2001 UNESCO TVET regional conference, Dr. Qian Tang described the conference as an important follow-up to the Second International Congress on Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) which took place in Seoul, Republic of Korea, in 1999. He outlined a number of issues arising from the Seoul Congress and from recent developments in information and communication technologies and economic globalisation, which required consideration by delegates to the conference. He highlighted the disparities in national capacities within the Asia Pacific region to improve TVET programs and encouraged the development of partnerships. Dr. Tang also announced the establishment of the Adelaide Institute of TAFE and the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) as a joint regional centre of excellence for technical and vocational education in the Pacific region and pledged the support of UNESCO for networking and program activities at regional and sub-regional levels.

Other papers from this conference are indexed at TD/UNEVOC 65.01, TD/UNEVOC 65.04 to TD/UNEVOC 65.06 and from TD/UNEVOC 65.08 to TD/UNEVOC 65.28
