Abstract:

This report looks at the development of group training from its beginnings among industry associations, examining patterns of growth in group training in terms of its occupational mix, the structure and type of training, who participates, what they do and what they gain from it. Group training is shown to be a strong and enduring contributor to Australia’s apprenticeship and traineeship system. The characteristics of group training apprentices and trainees are looked at, followed by completions and outcomes from group training for apprentices and trainees. The report analyses participation and outcomes from off-the-job training for group training apprentices and trainees.
