Abstract:

This paper reports on a study comparing gender-linked enrollment patterns in selected American and Finnish vocational programmes. On the basis of enrollment data for courses such as agriculture, business, home economics, health occupations and others, the results show a significant gender difference in enrollment patterns, with females choosing service and caring occupations and males choosing production and industry occupations. The paper concludes with recommendations to equalise gender distribution of career choice.
