Abstract:

Interpreting maths is part of the Maths for Living Series, developed for use with the CGEA (1996-2001) and supports Numeracy and Mathematics learning outcomes. The resource is suitable to use for the module Numeracy and Mathematics II in the CGEA (2002-2006). The CD introduces different mathematical concepts in three contexts, home, work and leisure. Within these contexts students can select either graphing or problem solving activities. For example in the home section there are activities related to interpreting graphs on electricity bills, in the work section there is a duty roster based problem solving activity and in the leisure section, working out your footy teams statistics. The information is clearly presented and is followed by some practical activities for learners to complete. Results for these activities are given and can be printed off and there are also 'quizzes' at the end of each section where learners can use what they have learned in different contexts. The resource is well presented with a variety of activity type and presentation used, and voice overs offered for most explanations and instructions. A useful resource to support the delivery of maths within the CGEA.
