Abstract:

In 1997, in an effort to obtain a clearer picture of the relationship between research and policy-making in education, the International Bureau of Education (IBE) launched a series of national case studies on the processes involved in the use of educational information and research. The aim was to obtain the educational researchers' views on the impact of research outcomes on decision-making at the national level, and to learn how decision-makers perceive the role of information and research during policy formation.

This paper discusses the state and circulation of educational information in Iran. It provides an overview and analysis of the role of the four major national educational research institutes, the Institute for Educational Research (IER), the Institute for Research on Special Education (RISE), the Institute for Educational Research at the National University for Teacher Education (IER-NUTE), and the Institute for Research and Planning in Higher Education (IRPHE). The author then discusses the eleven education faculties in Iran and the types of courses offered. The next section looks at the role and function of libraries and documentation centres, the media, journals, educational databases and databanks and links to international networks and information services. The final section examines the role of information in designing and implementing the new secondary education system.
