Abstract:

This position paper from Adult Learning Australia argues that the task of building a learning society where all citizens are engaged in ways that maximise their individual wellbeing and strengthen Australian society as a whole has fallen well short of what is required. The paper seeks to re-assess the nature of that task, to examine the policy imperatives that require lifelong learning responses, and to propose a framework for implementation that will maximise the social and economic benefits available to Australia through a properly resourced and coordinated adult and community education sector.
