Abstract:

This report examines whether international vocational education and training (VET) policies have an impact on the Australian VET sector. A discussion paper used in the first phase of the project (indexed at TD/TNC 79.384) gathered feedback on recent national and international literature to compare differences in VET policies around the world. The findings revealed that if Australia wishes to maintain its leadership role in the global context it needs to receive continuous support from the government and through initiatives such as the Australian Flexible Learning Framework. It will be essential to maintain professional development programs that support VET practitioners and to provide access to technology and services that allow for lifelong learning. The contents of the report are: Executive summary; Introduction; Flexible learning and educational change in a global society; Vocational education and training: A global perspective; The Australian VET system: external and internal perspectives; Conclusions and issues for further investigations.
