Abstract:

This publication reports on a human resource development (HRD) study looking at the requirements of the tourism sector in India. This study was carried out at the request of the Indian Government and with financial assistance from the Government of Japan. The study aimed to determine the manpower needs in the hotel and accommodation sector, estimate the skill requirements in various occupational areas, and ascertain the training infrastructure needs. The report discusses the attributes of tourism in India, the constraints on HRD and possible solutions, and provides a prognosis for HRD development.
