Abstract:

The Western Institute of TAFE (WIT) runs many successful education and training programs for Aboriginal students and most are developed in consultation with Aboriginal communities and by collaboration between Aboriginal and Outreach coordinators, teachers and support staff. Cultural factors are always taken into account when designing the programs.

The article describes the way WIT manages this process through a range of initiatives. The article also describes the Wilcannia permaculture special project, a model learning project which embodies elements that are meaningful and relevant to Aboriginal people.

This issue of Training Agenda features many articles on Aboriginal students in vocational education and training.
