Abstract:

This volume sets out to describe initial and continuing vocational education and training (VET) in France. A development in the French VET system in recent years is the increased use of alternance training at various levels to bring training closer to practice in order to facilitate the transition to working life. Social partners play an increasing role in the field of continuing vocational training, and despite the crucial role of the public sector in the French VET system there has also been a marked increase in the number of private training providers offering a wide range of training. The volume offers general contextual information relevant to the French education system, followed by a detailed description of the French VET system and its statutory and financial framework. Certification, qualifications and the training of trainers are briefly touched on and it concludes with a look at current and future trends.
