Abstract:

The project was approved by the Director-General of the Department of TAFE in November 1984. A project officer from the Policy Support Branch was assigned to the task in December 1984. The project, which commenced in January 1985, was directed to include the following: A brief summary of the terms of reference of South Australian TAFE college councils; An examination of the formal position of principals as members of college councils; The presentation of views from a sample of TAFE principals and council presidents on the role of principals on TAFE college councils; and Comparative information (and trends) in relation to South Australian secondary education and selected interstate TAFE systems. A written report was requested in which a number of options would be presented, for consideration by the Director-General in Policy Committee, (DTAFE). This is the report.
