Techno-employment

Sustainable development has traditionally been based on the four Es; economy, efficiency, effectiveness and environment. Approaches to sustainable development throughout the world have been driven by these principles paralleled by an unprecedented commitment to investment in communications and information technology. Techno-employment has become the fashionable `answer' to linking future employment and sustainable development into the global information economy. This presentation suggests two more planks of sustainable development that should be part of any successful future employment and training strategy, namely: (1) enhancement of access, skills and awareness, for participating in the knowledge-based economy; and (2) enfranchisement of communities and individuals into mutually beneficial economic, social and political relationships with effective links into the wider network of public, private and community sector agencies, as well as an overall say in the community and regional planning process.
